I received an invitation to submit my work to the upcoming Moving Pictures Exhibition at Wheaton College, I really like the fact that they want to include all the process work that goes along with creating...i.e. sets, puppets, painted frames, etc. I should find out by the beginning of next year if I get in...definitely something to look forward to!

I haven't seriously thought of creating anything new for quite awhile, I was looking through my old notes and stories I liked and came across one that was one of my favorites as a kid. I couldn't remember the name of it (thank YOU, Google!) until I looked today, "The Boy Who Drew Cats". It's funny what you remember years later, like the phrase, "...an enormous, monstrous rat, - a goblin rat, - bigger than a cow!" Hopefully more will come of this...

I haven't sketched anything out yet but I am already thinking of doing stop motion using white paper cut outs for sets and puppets, just using the natural shadows for color and shading...I wanted to do this a few years ago while I was still in school but never had a chance to...I have attached some links to give an idea of what I have in mind for technique. Aaaaand I can't wait to start this project!

Going through some of my old prints from my extremely short lived experience as a photo major…I couldn’t explain to my teacher why I loved this photo…all I know was that he was not impressed. I had no idea until then that you could capture two speeds of light in one image…I’m sure there is something technical I am leaving out, but it just amazed me that I could see through the train to the houses across the track – I wanted to make this image move…

The Hive Archive & Hera Gallery are coordinating a group exhibition and

I just saw the movie "Splice" (more fun with Guillermo del Toro) and really loved the special effects...especially the title sequence and the small clip of animation from the actual vfx studios. Quick shots of animal x-rays that began to wiggle and move in ways appropriate to each animal...so pretty. Now what should I do with my own image?

I remember this story from grade school. I was reading every traditional fairy tale I could get my hands on and just obsessed over Baba Yaga, the Russian witch with her house that ran around on chicken legs. Or at least ran behind Baba Yaga who was intent on chasing children through the forest to eat them. She didn't ride a broom but a mortar and pestle...how can a twelve year old not love this?

Anyways, I have just been running an idea of Baba Yaga's chicken house through my head...walking quietly through a dark gloomy forest. Pecking at small insects and generally just being your normal, everyday chicken house.

I can't believe this is really someone's home...anyways, this is a still frame of a scene. I am printing up each frame, hitting it with a thin layer of white gesso which picks up some of the pigment from the inkjet print...sweet and happy-ass accident! I think I will shoot these scenes on the Oxberry top and bottom lit - this is definitely one of the better tests. I like the directionality of the brush strokes and will play with that compared with some of the globbier tests below!

There is a lot more to the original story but I have had to edit it back to work into a 3-5 minute animated short. I am still working on some of the dialogue (highlighted in yellow), probably need to add an additional scene to make it flow better, and plan to have voice actors record the final version.
